Recognizing People Power in New York City
The Mayoral Service Recognition Program celebrates the power of volunteerism across New York City. Each April, during National Volunteer Month, the program honors individuals and groups who have used service as a solution to challenges and have strengthened our city through people power.
Nominations for the 2025 recognition cycle are now closed. The next recogntion cycle will open in early 2026.
2025 Mayoral Service Impact Award Winners
Spirit of the City Awardee: Nancy Easton
Nancy co-founded Wellness in the Schools to bring healthy meals and active play to over a million students, including all NYC public schools. She mentors chefs and advocates for national reforms like the Chefs in the Schools initiative.

AmeriCorps Alum Impact Awardee: Rina Madhani
Rina founded Start Lighthouse to close literacy gaps through diverse book access and family programming. Her Literacy Hub serves over 2,100 students citywide.

Community Impact Awardee: Every Day is a Miracle
Bronx-based Every Day is a Miracle has provided over 21 million meals since 2008 and delivers wraparound social services across multiple locations, including Title I schools.

Partnership Impact Awardee: Morgan Stanley & New York Edge
Together, they launched a six-week Coding Club at PS 78 in Queens, empowering middle school students to explore STEM through creative tools and mentorship from employee volunteers.

Youth Impact Awardee: Adams Street Youth Leadership Council
Their “Bridging the Gap” program increased youth feelings of safety around law enforcement by 54%, following education sessions and a joint field day with 130+ youth and officers.

About the Mayoral Service Recognition Program
Service Impact Awards | People of NYC's Choice
The Impact Awards honor individuals, nonprofits, and business partners who strengthen communities through service. Awardees receive public recognition, a certificate signed by the Mayor, and a cash award.
- Spirit of the City Award: Honors adults (21+) making an extraordinary impact through volunteerism.
- AmeriCorps Alum Impact Award: Recognizes continued service beyond a national service term.
- Community Impact Award: Celebrates innovative nonprofit volunteer engagement.
- Partnership Impact Award: Honors cross-sector partnerships that serve NYC communities.
- Youth Impact Award: Recognizes individuals or youth groups under 21 making a difference.
Certificates of Recognition
NYC-based organizations and businesses can request Mayoral Recognition Certificates for:
- Volunteer efforts between Jan 1–Dec 31, 2024
- Employees or volunteers who served 50+ hours
- Signed by Mayor Eric Adams & Chief Service Officer Laura Rog
- Available in digital or printed formats
